Arugam Bay Beachwear draws its inspiration from the clear blue waters and golden shores of Sri Lanka’s East coast. Faithful to the island’s riotous colours, Arugam Bay Beachwear embodies the young, vibrant and international spirit of the quaint little town that shares its name.

In its Swim 2017 Collection, Arugam Bay Beachwear celebrates the iconic Breton stripes, which originated with French sailors in the mid-nineteenth century and grew into a design icon indicative of the cruise and beach lifestyle.

“Breton stripes have become a famous global design icon so we wanted to go to the origins of the stripe and tap into where it came from. We also added classical nautical symbols, such as the anchor. We’re trying to project classic and universal elements through the lens of Arugam Bay,” says Ajai Vir Singh. “This collection is sporty and classic, even in its silhouettes.”

ON THE IMPORTANCE OF SWIM WEEK COLOMBO:

“It’s been positioned as an international platform which will not only showcase swimwear formally in Asia, it will also give exposure to Sri Lankan designers.”

ON HOW TO APPROACH AND BUY SWIMWEAR:

“I would advise people to look at their body shape, and choose something that will really work with their body and add value to their body, not the other way around.”
