Sarita Rajandran is the founder and Managing Director of Rachel Raj. Identifying a niche in free size clothing in the local and international market, she ventured out as an entrepreneur and created Rachel Raj, a resort chic luxury clothing label that seeks to celebrate the diversity and individuality of women.

Each item of clothing is carefully created using local artisan techniques, from traditional Ceylonese wax print and intricate craftsmanship to modern digital prints. The use of silk, handloom, pure cotton and chiffon are a standard adhered to at all times. Each garment is individualistic and timeless thereby creating a sentimental place in your wardrobe.

This season, Rachel Raj presents, ‘The Riviera’, a collection that exudes luxury, sensuality and sophistication with a touch of glamour. – “It draws inspiration from women of the Golden Era, with the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Sophia Lauren. Rachel Raj is essentially a free size brand and these women were very real women. So the collection is very classic and simple. I used gold plated hardware. The pieces are glamourous but functional and I have different silhouettes that will cater to the body types of different women.”

ON THE IMPORTANCE OF SWIM WEEK COLOMBO
“It’s very important because it gives designers exposure and a platform to gain international recognition. Since I am launching my swimwear line at Swim Week I would definitely hope that Rachel Raj will get a chance of some international exposure as this will open up tremendous opportunities.”

ON HOW TO APPROACH AND BUY SWIMWEAR
“I think all women are beautiful, regardless of their shape and size. I would say any women whatever shape, size and age doesn’t have to be worried when it comes to swimwear, because with us they can always find something to wear.”
