Rukshika Fernando, the co-founder and co-owner of Rum Punch, holds a degree in fashion design from the Academy of Design, Sri Lanka and Northumbria University, UK. Rukshika worked as a Senior Designer at MAS Intimates where she had the opportunity to work directly with the Victoria’s Secret team. In 2014, she launched Rum Punch, a brand of premium resort wear that strongly focussed on swimwear and beachwear. Rum Punch was also showcased at the BrightSpark Shows during the CFW Spring/Summer 2015 Show in March last year.

The OFFBEAT POP 16/17 is a collection of fun and cheeky swim styles with bold prints. Drawing inspiration from surf wear and pop culture, this collection features the work of local artists, thereby making it truly Sri Lankan – “I’ve used used pop art alongside bold colours and a touch of mesh for texture.”

ON THE IMPORTANCE OF SWIM WEEK COLOMBO

“It is very important to me because my business is exclusively swimwear. It’s a great platform, from both a local and international perspective, to showcase Sri Lanka’s talent for manufacturing swimwear.”

ON HOW TO APPROACH AND BUY SWIMWEAR

“I believe that it comes down to your personal taste in the end. I look for a good fit paired with the coverage I wish to have. It depends a lot on how the piece looks on your body and what colours suit you – what looks good on one person may not always look the same on another. All things considered, if you love it, definitely buy it!”
